Spotlight: Shiner Bock

25 Jun

This is the first post in a series where I will highlight something that I am really enjoying at the time.  If I feel it’s worth noting immediately, I’ll throw it in spotlight.  This first post is an easy one.  Shiner Bock is brewed right here in the Lone Star State and is almost synonymous with Texas.  It’s a darker brew, offering a rich, mellow flavor that is perfect for sipping.  Though it is native here, it is also shipped out to 41 states!  That means that as I post this, you could be on your way to grab some now. The Spoetzl Brewery in Shiner, TX (pop. 2,070) is the oldest independent brewery in the state and offers great tours of the factory.  Also, if you’re wondering what the ram is for on the label, “bock” means “ram” or “buck” in German.  This concoction is perfect for a hot afternoon while throwing meat on the grill, so be sure to grab some this summer.

Another thing to note is that Bock is not the only Shiner brew.  Shiner Light is a, well, lighter version of their flagship beer.  Shiner Blonde is a descendent of Spoetzl’s original recipe.  Shiner Hefeweizen is unfiltered, giving it a cloudy appearance.  Don’t be intimidated by this!  It’s a great drink with a citrus background.  The Bohemian Black Lager is a very sweet beer and not one of my favorites.  You may have a completely different opinion, thouugh!

I hope this first post was enjoyable.  Check back some other time for more spotlights on movies, music, sports, and much more!
